Description
Betsy Ross Range Box
This rifle range box has form, utility and beauty all in one. Created using domestic and exotic hardwoods I’ve incorporated features that will allow you store all of your shooting supplies while you’re at the range having fun. Built into the box are accessories that will allow you to cradle your rifle, keeping it protected and at a working height that is comfortable.
The “Betsy Ross” box features a unique lid with a representation of the traditional flag created in 1776 by Betsy Ross. It features 13 stripes of alternating woods, Paduak or Red Heart and American Holly. The 13 Stars are on a background of Blue veneer. All are handcrafted and not machined thus creating a “sewn” look from the original flag. Framing the sides of the flag are opposing Kentucky Muzzle Loaders. This form of artwork I created using a technique called “Marquetry”. The woods used here are; American walnut, Bolivian rosewood and yellow heart. The process to cut and bring together these little tiny pieces takes time but I think the end result is well worth it.
This box features a storage compartment in the lid with sliding lid panels to hold your supplies. Storage is also available in the bottom of the box, but with removable dividers should you want more open space. A convenient tray sets just inside the box as you open it. Stored strategically inside are two rifle stands, that when properly placed on the side create a cradle for your rifle. The bottom of the tray and box have a removable leather insert. Variety and availability of specific leather may change from the picture shown.
Joinery: This box and tray were built using Half-Blind dovetails to create a very strong and beautiful look, commonly found in high-quality furniture.
This box is made from American Cherry, Mahogany and Spalted Maple. The dimensions are roughly 20” high x 10” deep x 12” tall.
Finish:
Knowing that this box is used outdoors and will take some abuse I’ve carefully applied 6 coats of clear satin Acrylic with UV protection to the exterior and hand rubbed Danish oil to the interior parts. Completing the box are nickel plated piano hinges and front latches. Black iron handles adorn the sides.
